This was very powerful. I feel similar feelings, but have not experienced quite the same depth. I’m ashamed of the leaders of my country. We’re not the country we were on 9/11/2001 or the country I knew as a boy. I grieve for my country and choked up a few times on this latest anniversary of 9/11. Thank you for sharing your story. I’m going to share it with a friend or two.

I’ve been in this cycle of grief for about 15 years. I have lost my way, found it, and lost it many times. Through it all the core of my patriotism in my soul remains. I was there when Saddam hit Kuwait; what I believe started it all. Well…not all…that goes way back, but at least this present history we are on. Mistakes have been made and more will be made. The entirety of the Afghanistan invasion was a debacle, in my opinion. We sent boots when we should have sent bombs. But that’s a different rant… people will make mistakes. As people, we need to try to find our common ground and get past those mistakes. Through it all, hand on to your center of patriotism. Good luck!
