Hermit Kingdom Envy
Trump is again gushing over the power and tyranny of dictators.
As I've pointed out before, Trump equates intelligence, smartness, and machismo with ruthlessness, power, and domination. That's why Hezbollah is "smart," Kim Jong-un is "tough and smart," and why Trump praises Xi Jinping for “the look, the strength, the voice!”
The only thing that speaks to this man is power and influence. He's vain, he's greedy, he's everything the conservative movement used to understand was anathema to good governance. He is the antithesis of a George Washington, the precise opposite type of human being that the office of the presidency should be entrusted to.
And what's crazy is how he convinces people he fights for them. If he really cared about the people, he would never call someone who inflicts tyranny and deprivation upon their own people, as Kim Jong Un and Xi Jinping so ruthlessly do, intelligent or smart. But he does, because he doesn't care for the people, he wants power over the people. He envies the hermit kingdom over the land of the free, because of the power a dictator can wield.

This is not just a disease that affects Trump's increasingly addled thinking (federal control of schools?). When Thomas Friedman talks of "being China for a day" he is really fantasizing about having the absolute power to avoid the grubby, frustrating work of compromise and negotiating. Well Trump was the absolute dictator of his business dealings and the result was four bankruptcies.
Either that or he’s just impressed by all those world records Kim has set! Man if Trump has read any newspaper out of North Korea I’m sure he’s heard about them!
