Thank you for such a clear & concise description of the last few years. Personally, I have long compared the former President to stories such as "The Wizard of Oz" & "The Emperor Has No Clothes". But, I dare not underestimate his ability to blind his followers to the accuracy of these comparisons. I will share your article & hope that many will take the time to read & absorb it's truths.

“ Indeed, what we can say of conservative victories in the courts is that legal conservatism had developed so much momentum over the years that not even Trump could derail its efforts, and, in fact, Trump rode its coattails to his narrow victory in 2016)”

I’d never thought of it that way but that’s actually a brilliant framing. Very insightful. Dobbs (and Bruen etc.) therefore isn’t the victory of Donald Trump, but rather the culmination of decades of hard work which Trump was a small accessory to and beneficiary of (in that it won him a presidency he largely squandered).

As Trump’s star fades, I think more people will come to accept that he was never successful. It was always a facade and there was never any there there. Humans are terrible at attributing to skill what is better explained by luck, so we overweight historical accident (i.e., the 2016 election) and pretend it has greater significance than it does).
